Kuala Lumpur : Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim will lead Malaysia’s delegation to the 15th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Iran from July 29-30.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry said Rais was scheduled to deliver a statement at the conference.
Rais is expected to touch on NAM’s role and the challenges ahead especially in climate change, the food crisis and world fuel prices as well as political developments in the Middle East.
The meeting with the theme “Solidarity for Peace, Justice and Friendship” will provide an opportunity for Malaysia to state its stand on important issues at the international level.
Beside that, the meeting is important to strengthen cooperation on issues that were mutually important to the NAM countries.
The conference will provide opportunity for NAM member nations to monitor the movement’s progress after its last meeting.
The ministers attending are also expected to envisage two documents namely the Final Document and the Tehran Declaration on Iran’s Nuclear Issue.
