Prince William takes part in anti-drug operation

By DPA,

London : Britain’s Prince William for the second time this month was involved in a major anti-drug smuggling operation in the Caribbean, the British Defence Ministry reported Sunday from London.

The 26-year-old lieutenant was aboard a British marine helicopter that stopped a speedboat manned by three suspected drug smugglers. No drugs were found on the vehicle, but traces of drugs were found on two of the three men arrested.

According to a marine spokesman, it is usual practice of smugglers to jettison their load of illicit drugs when pursued by law enforcement.

The incident occurred off the coastal waters of Venezuela and Colombia, and the suspected smugglers were handed over to Colombian authorities.

According to the defence ministry, Prince William participated in the entire operation.

In early July, William played a key role in another sea operation in which cocaine worth at least 40 million pounds ($80 million) was seized.

The prince has been seconded for two months to the British Navy as part of his military training.
