Security stepped up in West bengal after Ahmedabad blasts

By IANS,

Kolkata : An alert was sounded and security stepped up in sensitive areas of West Bengal following the multiple blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

“We have already issued an alert to all districts. They have been asked to take preventive action,” West Bengal Inspector General of police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told IANS here.

Kanojia, however, said police did not have any specific information on any threat perception in the state.

“But still we have stepped up vigil in sensitive areas, like localities with mixed population,” he said.

Security has also been tightened in vital installations and crowded areas like railway stations, bus stands and market places.

“We have made arrangements for checking people and baggage in railway stations, and market complexes. We have taken all preventive measures,” he said.

One woman was killed and several people were injured Friday when eight bombs fitted with timer devices went off in a span of 45 minutes in Bangalore.

On Saturday, 20 bombs tore through Ahmedabad killing at least 45 people, and injuring 100.
