Doctors cannot meet medical reps during public hours

By IANS,

Chandigarh : The Punjab government Wednesday directed all doctors in medical institutes and hospitals not to meet any medical representative during public hours.

Taking a serious note of instances of doctors of allopathy, ayurveda, homeopathy and dental colleges and hospitals being engaged by medical representatives of pharmaceutical companies during the visiting hours of general patients, Minister for Medical Education and Research Tikshan Sud said that the practice should be stopped immediately.

“It has been brought to my notice that medical representatives meet doctors during public hours and patients are made to wait for hours,” Sud said.

The direction will apply to all doctors in government and private medical institutes and hospitals.

Sud said that doctors in these places can meet medical representatives only after 2 p.m. but only after attending to all waiting patients.

He directed concerned officials to ensure that medical representatives did not enter medical institutes and hospitals before 2 p.m.
