Vienna : Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plasnik said Thursday that achieving peace in Middle East must come through continuous negotiations and meetings, welcoming the recent talks between Israelis and Palestinians in Washington.
Plasnik said that the meeting, under the auspices of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, was an important event that needed to be backed up by the EU and the international community.
She affirmed that the EU had succeeded in rallying support for Palestinians through two conferences held in Germany and Austria last June, adding that the union was also ready to revive the mission to monitor the Rafah crossings.
Plasnik stressed that it was time for the establishment of two co-existing states, calling on Israelis and Palestinians to finalize their decisions on the status of Jerusalem and Palestinian refugees.
Both parties should abide by their commitments to the peace process, conclude the official.
