Ahmedabad : A bomb was recovered and defused Thursday in Gujarat’s Ankleshwar district even as a letter saying that a bomb was planted at the Vadodara Stock Exchange turned out to be a hoax, the police said.
No bombs were recovered in Surat Thursday but in neighbouring Ankleshwar district, one bomb was recovered and defused, the police said.
A letter written in Hindi was received Thursday at the Vadodara Stock Exchange (VSE) at 11.45 a.m. The letter said that that there was a bomb in the exchange and the building should be evacuated immediately.
The letter, which was addressed to VSE’s managing director Deepak Rawal and signed “Atankvad (extremist) Jihad Simi”, was handed over to the police. The letter was posted in Vadodara July 30.
Police personnel and dog squads searched the building but nothing dangerous or damaging was recovered, the police said.
Of the two entrances to the building, one was closed.
“In the last ast two days, the loss in textile business is Rs.150 crores (Rs.1.5 billion). Everyday the sale in Surat Rs.100 crore (Rs.1 billion). If this scare continues for one more week, no buyers will be coming here,” said Chetan Shah of the Surat Chamber of Commerce.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday met the police commissioner and other senior officials of Surat to review the situation following the recovery of 22 unexploded bombs over three days.
On Saturday, a series of 21 bombs exploded across Ahmedabad killing at least 51 people and injuring 200.
