Ramallah : The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Thursday vowed to respond to actions by security forces, loyal to Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, against its supporters in West Bank.
“The security services and the unrestrained trouble makers of Fatah have planted thorns and they will be blamed when the regret is harvested,” a Hamas spokesman, with his name withheld, in West Bank said in a statement sent to the press.
Fearful from taking over West Bank, the pro-Abbas forces launched a crackdown against Hamas after the Islamic movement seized control of Gaza Strip last year.
Over the past few days, the West Bank forces also tightened their campaign against Hamas in response to Hamas’ crackdown which launched in Gaza after a deadly blast on Gaza beach. Hamas accused Fatah of being behind the explosion which killed a girl and five Hamas members.
Back to his threats, the spokesman explained that “the security forces in West Bank commit crime after crime in its interrogation and torture facilities and the circumstances there are similar to the situation that prevailed in Gaza Strip before Hamas carry out the military settlement.”
Hamas said it forcibly fought pro-Abbas forces in Gaza last year since the forces, dominated by Fatah, continued to put obstacles on the way of Hamas after it won parliamentary elections in 2006.
The spokesman warned the members of the security forces in West Bank that Israel “will close its roadblocks and checkpoints in their faces” if Hamas fights with them in the occupied territory.
