Terror mail case: Cyber cafe employee jailed

By IANS,

Kolkata : A court Thursday remanded a woman employee of a cyber cafe here to 14 days judicial custody after a hoax terror mail was sent from the cafe threatening serial blasts in the city. The owner of the cafe was remanded in custody Wednesday.

“Sabitri Dandapath was produced before Bankshal court in central Kolkata Thursday. She was ordered to 14 days of judicial custody,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinet K. Goyal told reporters here.

An email was sent to a television channel at 10 p.m. Tuesday threatening multiple bomb blasts in the city. On tracking the internet protocol address of the mail, the police came to know that it was sent from the cafe in Salt Lake area, and arrested the owner Kaushik Basu.

Dandapath used to maintain the customer’s register at the café and worked as a domestic help at Basu’s residence.

The police said Dandapath and Basu are helping them draw sketches of the people who sent the hoax terror email.

“We interrogated her Wednesday and came up with some important information related to the case,” Goyal added.
