British Muslim delegation visits Pakistan

Islamabad : A delegation of British Muslims has arrived from the UK for a week-long visit which will focus around Islamabad and Mirpur, the British High Commission said on Sunday. Two of Pakistan’s cities with prominent links to the Pakistani diaspora in the UK, a statement said.

The six-member delegation consists of British nationals of Pakistani origin who are successful in different fields of life.

Their visit to Pakistan is part of the ‘Promoting British Islam’ programme, support by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The delegation aims to share their experiences as Muslims in Britain today, by engaging in constructive dialogue and debate.

During their week in Pakistan the group will meet with a wide range of people including politicians, university students, civil society groups and the media. It is through this level of interaction and communication that both similarities and differences can be recognised but more importantly mutual understanding and respect across communities can be increased.

The delegation reflects a broad cross-section of the Muslims from the communities across the UK.

The ‘Promoting British Islam’ programme previously has sent similar delegations to Egypt, Bahrain, Libya, India, Sudan, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, France, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada and Bosnia.

The members visiting Pakistan are Jehangir Malik, UK Manager of Islamic Relief; Mohammed Imran, Muslim Youth Helpline; Zareen Roohi Ahmed; Head of Muslim Engagement at Waterhouse Consulting Group; Adeeba Malik, Chief Executive of QED-UK; Azeez Ibrahim.

Founder of Ibrahim Foundation; and Shahien Taj, Founder and Director of All Wales Saheli Association.
