Palakkad (Kerala) : Schools in Kerala began the new academic year Monday by organising ‘Praveshanotsavam’ (admission festivals) to welcome the new entrants.
Around 400,000 children are expected to join first standard across the state this year.
Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan inaugurated the state-level admission festival at Malampuzha near here. “The government is open to suggestions on the new curriculum proposed in schools. If there are any shortcomings we are ready to rectify it,” Achuthanandan said inaugurating the function.
This year as per the new curriculum the government has changed textbooks for the classes I, III and VII.
Addressing the function, state Education Minister M.A. Baby said that this year the government will provide health cards to schoolchildren to ensure proper healthcare to them.
Responding to the criticism of the new curriculum, the minister said: “Those criticising the curriculum are doing it without studying it properly”.
