Bangalore : Torsten Rommel, a 40-year-old German national working for a leading real estate firm in Bangalore, was found dead in his apartment Tuesday, a top police official said Wednesday.
Police believe he might have died Monday of natural causes and do not suspect any foul play as his apartment door was locked from inside and there were no injuries on his body.
Soumendhu Mukherji, deputy police commissioner in-charge of the area where the apartment is located, said: “Circumstances and evidence so far do not suggest any foul play. The preliminary post-mortem report also does not indicate it.”
Rommel’s employers, Shoba Developers, declined to comment.
The German was staying alone in the apartment in HSR Layout, about 15 km from the city centre. His family in Germany and the German mission in India have been informed of his death, police said.
Police went to the apartment on learning from Shobha Developers that Rommel had not reported for duty for two days and complaints from neighbours that foul smell was emanating from there.
Police said they broke open the door as it was locked from inside and found the decomposing body on the bed.
