Magic shows to raise awareness against seasonal epidemics in Kerala

By IANS,

Thiruvananthapuram : Gopinath Muthukad, a magician who is known to spread social messages through his craft, will hold a series of shows through Kerala to educate people how seasonal epidemics can be prevented through clean habits.

His ‘magical mission’ is held under the auspices of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Kerala government and will begin from Kollam on June 6 and move on to 13 other district headquarters ending here on June 21.

In a press release, Muthukad said Monsoon Magic will be a combination show that underlines the importance of preventing epidemic outbreaks through environmental conservation.

“The performance begins by showing a mosquito biting a sleeping girl and tells how an epidemic spreads from one to many others. There is a magic number to show how dry day can be observed by keeping household utensils and vessels in an inverted position thereby preventing unwanted water from getting collected in them,” said the release.

‘Screen magic’ and ‘shadow stunt’ are tricks based on light and sound technology. ‘Screen magic’ teaches about the judicious use of water, controlled application of plastic, hygienic preservation of food and prudent disposal of solid wastes.

The Monsoon Magic show ends with resonating verses of poet Sugathakumari in praise of rain and observance of a pollution-free Kerala.
