Kuwait : Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has received visiting Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousif Bin-Alawi Bin-Abdullah with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Al-Sabah attending.

After the meeting Bin-Abdullah and Sheikh Dr Mohammad held a joint press conference where they hailed the results of the meeting Wednesday.

“The Emir backs every effort aimed to enhance Omani-Kuwaiti cooperation and the common interests of the Arab nation,” Bin-Abdullah said.

“During the meeting with the Emir, we were briefed on his instructions to strengthen the bilateral ties on all levels to serve the interests of the two nations.

“The Emir always support efforts to promote the development of all Arab countries,” Bin-Abdullah pointed out.

Bin-Abdullah and his party, who arrived here earlier Wednesday for an official visit to Kuwait, took part in the activities of the fourth meeting of the Joint Omani-Kuwaiti Commission on Cooperation.

He also praised the tone and atmosphere of the meeting of the commission during which the two sides reached several agreements on bilateral cooperation. “Some of the documents relate to political coordination between the two ministries of foreign affairs and some others relate to economic cooperation,” the Omani minister disclosed.

“The two sides inked a deal on a KD 25 million loan from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) for the mammoth port project in Duqm area, east of Oman, overlooking the Arabian Sea.

“The multi-purpose project includes a freight and container services and a shipyard,” the minister noted.

For his part, Sheikh Dr Mohammad hailed the meeting with the Emir saying: “The Emir gave us the guidelines for enhancing the already close ties between Kuwait and Oman.”

“The two sisterly countries have special ties thanks to the close relations between the Emir and Sultan Qaboos Bin-Said Al-Said, of Oman,” he noted.

Sheikh Dr Mohammad also hailed as “very fruitful” the results of the fourth meeting of the joint commission. “The meeting proved that the two countries have common stance on all issues particularly in the political field and share a desire to enhance cooperation in the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League,” he pointed out.

Asked about reports on possible Kuwait role to bring close the positions of Arab countries notably Syria, on one hand, and Egypt and Saudi Arabia, on the other, he said Kuwait was always playing “an active and quiet role in inter-Arab rapprochement.”

“His Highness makes great efforts in this regard away from the limelight of the mass media, ” he said, pointing out the just-ended summit between the Emir and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad here on Wednesday.

“We see a breakthrough in the Arab-Arab ties. We hope all parties will take advantage of the current promising atmosphere after the settlement of the Lebanese crisis,” Sheikh Dr Mohammad underscored.

He also hailed the visit to Kuwait by Al-Assad and deemed it “a complete success.”

“President Assad, the current president of the Arab summit, thanked the Emir for attending the Damascus summit last March and briefed him on Syria’s efforts to stabilize the situation in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories and restore Arab unity in the framework of the Arab League,” he added.
