Jakarta : An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck Timor Leste Friday evening, the Indonesian meteorology agency said.
There were no immediate reports of death or damage.
The quake at 1342 GMT jolted Dili, the capital of Timor Leste, and had its epicentre 278 km northeast of the city, an official of the meteorological office said.
“We did not issue a tsunami warning,” he told Xinhua.
Timore Leste, which shares an island with Indonesia, sits on a vulnerable quake-prone zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire”, where the two continental plates meet and cause frequent seismic and volcanic movements.
