Egypt looks forward for further Kuwaiti aid to develop power – Al-Ahram

Cairo : Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has contributed in the construction of up to eight mega power stations in Egypt, the daily “Al-Ahram” said in a report published on Saturday.

This Kuwaiti contribution is estimated at KD 184 million, some 3.7 Egyptian pounds, a substantial portion of the foreign support for the country’s vital sector.

“Al-Ahram” quoted Minister of Electricity Hassan Younes as praising the Kuwaiti aid that generally contributed to boosting the national development process, noting that Kuwaiti assistance helped the country increase the power production to more than 32,000 megawatts.

He indicated at a future plan to hike the output to more than 55,000 megawatts, and affirmed the need for further aid, namely from Kuwait, to help Egypt develop this sector.

KAFED, in 1975, contributed with KD 9.9 million in the thermal Abu Qir station. It also contributed with KD 30 million in the power station venture, Al-Atef, in 2007.
