Hamilton and Rosberg punished for accident in Canadian GP

By DPA,

Montreal : Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will be punished for an accident at a refuelling stop during the Canadian Grand Prix.

They will be forced to start back 10 places in the next race in Magny-Cours, France, officials decided.

During the race here Sunday, Hamilton drove into Kimi Raikkonen’s car after overlooking a red light during a pit stop at the Circuit Gille Villeneuve. Rosberg then crashed into Hamilton. The accident ended the race for Hamilton and Raikkonen, while Rosberg finished 10th.

Hamilton had been leading an incident-free race from pole ahead of eventual winner Robert Kubica and Raikkonen at the time of the crash and looked set to win like last year.

“I can only say ‘Sorry Kimi,’ Hamilton, who accepted the blame, said afterward. “I don’t really know what happened.”

Kubica, who was lucky that Hamilton did not hit him, said: “We were pitting together and the red light was still on. I just heard a big shunt and saw Kimi moving. Then I saw Lewis.”
