Jaipur: Succumbing to mounting pressure from Muslim organizations and social activists, the Jaipur police released engineer Rashid Hussain of Patna, a couple of hours ago.

Rashid, who works as a senior network engineer for software major Infosys Technologies in the city, was arrested on 1st June as a suspect of the May 13 Jaipur bombings. Talking to TwoCircles.net (TCN) from Jaipur soon after Rashid’s release, Rajasthan Jamaat-e-Islami president Er. Mohammad Saleem expressed happiness over his release. Er. Saleem, along with other organizations and activists, was working tirelessly for his release for the last few days.

Rashid was among the first few who set up a camp outside Sawai Man Singh hospital within hours after the May 13 serial blasts in the city to help victims’ relatives. He set up the camp under the banner of NGO Human Development Society.

Talking to TCN, Iftikhar Khan, secretary of Human Development Society, said Rashid had been very active socially and had led several social welfare projects. He was with the NGO for two and half years. To set a camp to help Jaipur bombing victims’ families was his idea, said Khan.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had stormed the rented house of Rashid, 36, at Pratap Nagar locality and detained him for questioning. SIT said Rashid had contacts with banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and had prior knowledge of the blasts that claimed 67 lives. But his father Shakir Hussain, who is Reader in Psychology at the Oriental College in Patna, had denied the allegation. On hearing his son’s detention, his father came to Jaipur and has since been camping here. He said his son had never been involved in any anti-social activity.
