Arrangements begin for 796th urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti

Ajmer: District Administration has being preparations for the 796th urs (death anniversary) gathering of famous Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. District Collector Navin Mahajan have instructed all departments to complete all preparations necessary for the smooth functioning of the urs functions.

Thousands of devotees visit Ajmer during urs gathering that is traditionally held between 1st and 6th Rajab of Islamic calendar. This year it is expected to be between 5th to 13th of July. Flag ceremony will be held on June 30th.

This is the first urs after the bomb blasts on Oct 11th, 2007 that killed three and injured seventeen during Ramadan. For increased security in Dargah Bazar area barricading will be done between Dhan Mandi and Nizam Gate. Barricading work is expected to be finished by June 27th.

Water Department is expected to start providing water in the fair grounds and rest area from 29th June and with increased supply during Friday and Chhatti day.

The Health Department will have 11 temporary dispensries set up in the areas of bust Stand, Railway Station, Dargah, Moti Katla, Taragarh, and Dhai din ka jhopra. Dispensry will be manned by health care workers and doctors. Health Department is also expected to keep an eye on the quality of food items sold during urs.

All areas will have sign boards in English, Hindi, and Urdu for visitors who are expected to visit Ajmer from different parts of India and abroad.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is also known as Gharib Nawaz for his work towards the poor. He is the founder of Chishtiya order in India.
