Ahmedabad : Gujarat’s opposition Congress party Wednesday announced plans to launch an agitation against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The state government was following a deceptive policy of blaming and defaming the central government, Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki told mediapersons after a two-day ‘introspection camp’ at Dwarka June 7-8.
The Congress will oppose the Gujarat government’s “apathy” in providing sufficient electricity to people, recent price hike in electricity charges and the BJP’s “duplicity” in criticising the the India-US nuclear deal which is meant to generate cheaper electricity, he said.
Criticising the BJP for cornering the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government on inflation, Solanki said that during the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) NDA rule inflation was 7.30-8 percent in the summer of 2004 which was eventually brought down by the Manmohan Singh government within a few months.
The Dwaraka meet was attended by Gujarat co-ordinator Rajiv Shukla, Congress general secretaries B.K. Hariprasad and Sudhakar Reddy, secretary Praveen Rashtrapal, MPs, MLAs and district leaders. The brainstorming session ended with a declaration that the Congress will fight the “rampant corruption” in the state.
