U.S.-led coalition forces’ air strike kills 11 Pakistani soldiers

By Xinhua,

Islamabad : Pakistan’s army Wednesday confirmed that its 11 soldiers were killed in an overnight air strike in its border region by the coalition forces in Afghanistan.

The military said in a statement that the coalition air strike destroyed a border check post of its paramilitary force in Mohmand Agency on the night of June 10.

“The Frontier Corps (FC) border check post at Gora Prai in Mohmand Agency was destroyed by Coalition Forces in Afghanistan through an aerial attack. Resultantly, eleven Security Forces Personnel including one officer embraced shahdat (marturdom),” said the statement.

It condemned this completely unprovoked and cowardly act on the FC post and regretted the loss of precious lives of the Pakistani soldiers.

The military blamed the U.S.-led coalition forces for the violent act and said that the incident had hit at the very basis of cooperation and sacrifice with which Pakistani soldiers are supporting the coalition in war against terror.

It highlighted that such acts of aggression did not serve the common cause of fighting terrorism.

It also said a strong protest had been lodged by the Pakistan army and “we reserve the right to protect our citizens and soldiers against aggression.”
