BJP to govt: Hold dialogues with striking transporters

By News Agency of Kashmir,

Jammu : Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has asked the Congress led coalition government for holding a negotiation talks with striking transporters to end the ongoing standoff in the interest of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Criticizing Azad-led coalition government in the state for prolonging transporters’ strike causing sufferings to the general masses and the pilgrims, BJP national executive member and former state president Dr. Nirmal Singh, while talking to the media persons here, asked the government to wake up and end the stalemate in the interest of citizens of J&K.

He maintained that the strike has paralysed normal life in most of the parts of the state and has caused numerous problems to the Mata Vaishno Devi and Amarnath pilgrims. He questioned the economic revolution slogan being given by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and asked what kind of economic revolution the people of J&K are witnessing when ‘Tangas’ and ‘trollies’ are ferrying the people from one place to another at different places in the city.

He alleged that though the government claims to have a large fleet of vehicles including passenger buses of SRTC, they are not being pressed into service for the convenience of the people. He pointed out that transport planes are put into service when Hajj pilgrims are stranded at Srinagar or elsewhere but in case of Hindu pilgrims, such steps are ignored by the “communal elements” within the government.

He further asked the government to exempt the sales tax on petroleum products which would help in reducing their prices including LPG cylinders.

He also criticised the government for its failure to tackle the ongoing strikes by the clerical staff, unemployed diploma and degree holders and home guards. “It is the basic duty of the government to address the problems being faced by different section of the society and employees. The leaders in the government are only talking about utopian dreams of bringing economic or other revolutions in the state without addressing the basic needs or problems of the people,” he alleged.
