By Xinhua,
Gaza : Islamic Hamas movement on Thursday said it was offended by the continuous crackdown against its members and supporters in West Bank despite President Mahmoud Abbas’ call for national dialogue.
The detention of Hamas people by pro-Abbas forces “doesn’t encourage the preparations of the dialogue which all the people wish to succeed,” Hamas said in a statement faxed to the media.
The Islamic movement urged the Palestinian security forces “to release all the prisoners who are not involved in crimes,” the statement said.
In West Bank, hundreds of Hamas supporters and members were arrested in the aftermath of Hamas violent takeover of the Gaza Strip.
Hamas, which rules Gaza since last June, also cracks down on Abbas’ Fatah supporters in Gaza but said it only arrests people for criminal reasons rather than political behavior.
After nearly one year of boycotting, Abbas last week called for national dialogue comprising Hamas to settle inner Palestinian political crisis.
Hamas, which welcomed the call, said pro-Abbas forces continued to arrest its people in West Bank instead of taking measures to pave the way for the dialogue.
