Ahmedabad : The Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) last week dedicated a Rs.2.1 million check dam it built to villagers living near the company’s Jamnagar refinery.

Nani Khavdi village, located in the shadow of the refinery’s marine facilities, has a natural gradient that helps rainwater to be collected in the check dam. An RIL official said 240,000 cubic metres of water can be collected.

RIL group president and parliamentarian Parimal Nathwani dedicated the dam, completed before the onset of the monsoon, to the villagers June 6.

Reliance Industries is India’s largest private sector company with a turnover of Rs.1,392.69 billion and net profit, excluding exceptional income, of Rs.152.61 billion, as of March 31, 2008.
