Jordan’s PM calls for respecting Iraqi sovereignty and independence

By Xinhua,

Amman : Jordanian Prime Minister Nadir Dhahabi on Thursday stressed Jordan’s position and called for respecting the territorial integrity of Iraq and its sovereignty and independence, the official news agency Petra reported Friday.

The prime minister made the remarks during Thursday’s talks with visiting Iraqi counterpart Nuri al-Maliki.

He highlighted the need not to interfere in Iraqi internal affairs and the importance of expanding the political process to ensure stability and bury the sectarian sedition.

Dhahabi reaffirmed Jordan’s stand beside Iraq offering all needed political support.

Maliki said the region needs to communicate among its members in a rational way to cope with the challenges it faces.

He expressed the Iraqi government’s appreciation for Jordan’s stance, under which Jordan hosts a large number of Iraqis on its territory after taking into account the circumstances and conditions in Iraq.

The two prime ministers also reviewed the bilateral relations and means to enhance them in various fields during the meeting.

Both of them underlined their keenness to develop the Jordanian-Iraqi ties, particularly in economic and commercial fields.

Maliki, who arrived in Amman on Thursday, is currently on a two-day official visit to Jordan.
