Madhya Pradesh wants IIT to start from this academic year

By IANS,

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the centre to start the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Indore from this academic year, an official said Tuesday.

In a letter to Union Minister for Human Resource Development Arjun Singh, Chouhan appealed to the Indian Technology Council to start the proposed IIT at Indore from this academic year itself, the official said.

Chouhan said the state government has selected 524 acres of land, 22 km from Indore railway station, for the proposed institute. A building having 56,000 square feet area had been earmarked in the city so that the institute can start and studies can commence from this session itself.

He said that though the state government had written to the HRD ministry in May to send a team for inspection of the selected land and building, no initiative has been taken so far.
