Ranchi : The Jharkhand government Wednesday recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the killing of social activist Lalit Mehta who was engaged in an audit of a central rural job guarantee scheme.
“We have recommended a CBI probe into the death of Lalit Mehta, considering the demand of social workers and other people,” Chief Minister Madhu Koda told reporters here.
Mehta was killed May 14 while he was on his way to Palamau district for a social audit of the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREG) scheme.
Social activists under the banner of Daman Virodhi Sangarsh Samittee (DVSS) of Jharkhand held a rally here June 10 demanding a CBI probe. The rally was attended by Magasaysay award winner Aruna Roy and social activist Swami Agnivesh among others.
