Ranchi : Torrential rain for the last three days has badly affected life in many parts of Jharkhand. Two people died in house collapse incidents. The state government Wednesday asked the army to be on alert.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda told reporters here that an alert has been sounded. “We have asked the army to be on alert so that they can help whenever it is required,” he said.

Many parts of state capital Ranchi and Jamshedpur have been flooded. House collapses caused by torrential rain claimed two lives, one in Ranchi Tuesday and the other in Jamshedpur Wednesday.

According to the Met office, Jharkhand has received over 300 mm of rain in the past three days.

An alert has been sounded in steel city Jamshedpur following the flooding of many parts and a threat posed by overflowing dams. The Suvarnarekha river is overflowing. Over 700 people have been shifted to safer places in the city.

“We are on alert in the district. We have shifted over 400 people from Kadma and Mango areas of the district,” said R.K. Agrawal, deputy commissioner of Jamshedpur.

The water from the overflowing Khakhai river has entered over 300 houses in Jugsalai, Bagbera, Shastrinagar, Azadnagar and Daiguttu areas of Jamshedpur district.

In Ranchi, water inundated low lying areas. People shifted their families to safer places.

The incessant rain has affected air and railway services. At many places the national highway has been damaged.
