Alapuzha (Kerala) : Kerala’s Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy Thursday asked the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the main ruling party, to tame Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran who faces a complaint from a Scheduled Caste legislator.
“It is unfortunate that a responsible person and minister comes out with such provocative statements. It is these statements that lead to problems. In the best interest of all concerned, the CPI-M should immediately restrain and tame Sudhakaran,” Chandy said after visiting legislator K.K. Shaju at his residence near here.
Shaju Tuesday gave a written complaint to the state director general of police against Sudhakaran for allegedly making derogatory comments about him and his caste, and sought police protection.
Shaju belongs to the Janadiypathiya Samrakshana Samithi party, an ally of the Congress-led United Democratic Front, and has been a two-time legislator from the Pandalam constituency reserved for the Scheduled Castes.
Sudhakaran has been criticising three opposition legislators: Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal and Babu Prasad besides Shaju, whom Sudhakaran has termed as mafia working against the interest of the state.
Reacting to Chandy’s statement, Sudhakaran said the need of the hour was for Chandy to persuade these legislators against indulging in mafia activities.
“These people are spreading canard against our party to malign it ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls,” said Sudhakaran.
