Munich : Jyoti Randhawa shot five birdies, three of them in a space of five holes on his second stretch, during his fine round of three-under 69 in the second round in the BMW International Open. He rose more than 20 places up the leader board after completing 36 holes.
Randhawa, whose first round one-under 71 had placed him 48th is now up to 22nd, but nearly one-third the field had yet to complete the second round at Golf club München Thursday.
While Randhawa made a smart move up, Shiv Kapur fell marginally with an even par 72 on second day. He had a 71 on first day and is now one-under 143 in 52nd place.
Jeev Milkha Singh, making his first appearance since winning the Bank Austria Open, slipped from tied 31st to 69th at even par 144. Jeev followed his first round 70 with a 74 in second round with a double bogey on third after starting on the tenth.
In the second round, Randhawa – starting on tenth – birdied the 12th and 14th and dropped a shot on 16th. He then bogeyed the first to fall to even par, but then three birdies on third, sixth and seventh saw him card 69.
Jeev, also starting on tenth, had two birdies on 18th and sixth, but dropped shots on 14th, a double on third and another bogey on fifth.
Kapur, missing the cut the past few weeks by small margins, was without a birdie for 16 holes before finding one on 17th. He also had a bogey on fifth.
The cut is likely at even par and Jeev will be hoping to just squeeze in.
At the top, Been Barham (68) was sharing the lead with Francois Delamontagne(66) at eight-under for 36 holes. Graeme Storm (69) was seven-under after two rounds.
In the first round, the lead was held by four players including Singapore’s Mardan Mamat (66). The others who shot the same were Argentina’s Rafa Echenique, South African Anton Haig and Australian Peter O’Malley at six under par.
