New Delhi : India’s Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi ran out of steam in the final of the Ordian Open losing to Mario Ancic of Croatia and Jurgen Melzer of Austria in straight sets in ‘s-Hertogensbosch, the Netherlands, Saturday.
Paes and Bhupathi, seeded second, went down 6-7 (5), 3-6 in little more than an hour.
The three-time Grand Slam winning doubles duo nevertheless will be happy with their impressive showing as they joined forces putting aside their personal differences aside in the run-up to the Olympics.
The Indians were 4-1 up in the first set after gaining a break in the second game but failed to press home the advantage. Ancic and Melzer broke back in the seventh game and took the set to tie-break.
Paes and Bhupathi managed well to save one set point in the tie-break before going down.
The Indians were lacklustre in the second set as Ancic and Melzer broke them in the fourth game to clinch the title.
