New Delhi/Ghaziabad : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the Noida double murders, was Monday given four more days’ custody of Krishna, the compounder of arrested dentist Rajesh Talwar, to search for the weapon used to murder teenaged Aarushi Talwar and her domestic help.
Krishna broke down in the court, alleging he was being tortured by the CBI.
Special Magistrate Sapna Mishra Tripathi extended Krishna’s CBI custody and asked him to be presented before the court June 27.
Earlier, CBI Counsel R.K. Saini sought four days’ custody of the compounder, saying the investigations were at a crucial stage and his presence was needed for cross-examining statements made by other people. Krishna has been in CBI custody since June 14.
“Krishna’s custody is essential to locate the weapon of offence,” CBI sources said.
The CBI, which took over the case June 1 after a public outcry over the manner in which the Noida police handled the probe, has not yet been able to locate the weapon used in the double murders or establish the motive for the crime.
The probe agency had earlier claimed to have recovered a ‘khukri’ (curved short knife) from Krishna’s room. The knife has been sent for forensic examination.
According to sources, forensic tests on the khukri have ruled out its use in the crime.
Krishna broke down in the court when asked if he was getting fair treatment during CBI custody. Alleging that he was being “tortured”, Krishna said he was not being allowed to sleep and had been slapped.
Aarushi, 14, was found murdered in her parents’ Jalvayu Vihar apartment in suburban Noida May 16. The police initially named the family domestic help Hemraj as the prime suspect, but backtracked when his body was found on the terrace of the apartment the next day.
The police arrested Rajesh Talwar May 23, saying he had killed the two as he was opposed to the close ties between Aarushi and Hemraj and also because she knew about his extra-marital relationship with a colleague, Anita Durrani.
The agency arrested Krishna June 13, saying he had confessed to his involvement in the murders.
The CBI has recorded Krishna’s statement before a police officer under Section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which is not admissible as evidence in the court. Only statements recorded before a magistrate are admissible as evidence.
