Seoul : South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the weekend in Seoul, according to spokesman of the Foreign Ministry on Monday.
Rice is scheduled to arrive in Seoul on Saturday for a two-day visit after attending a meeting of Group of Eight (G8) foreign ministers to be held in Japan.
“Secretary Rice plans to pay a courtesy call on President Lee on Saturday afternoon,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Moon Tae-young said.
Earlier on the day, Rice will hold talks with her South Korean counterpart Yu Myung-hwan, followed by a joint press conference, he added.
Rice and Yu will have consultations on U.S. President George W.Bush’s planned trip to Seoul and some major issues of mutual concern including their alliance, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s nuclear program and regional security, according to Moon.
Bush is slated to travel to South Korea early next month on the sidelines of his trip to Japan to attend the G-8 summit.
It would be Rice’s second visit to South Korea this year after the first one in late February, when she led the U.S. government delegation to President Lee’s inauguration ceremony.
