Sharm El-Sheikh : Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have held discussions here on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Mubarak expressed at the meeting Tuesday he was happy to meet Olmert, stressing the importance of discussing many issues including the Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire that took effect last Thursday through an Egyptian sponsorship.
For his side, Olmert said Egypt is a strategic partner in the region and has special efforts in the peace process.
He added that he will discuss with Mubarak the issue of Israeli soldier held by the Palestinians.
The Egyptian television said the two leaders discussed the outcome of the meetings of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice with Israeli Foreign Minister Tsivi Livni and Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak.
They also discussed the international conference to support the Palestinian authority that kicks off Tuesday in Germany with the participation of 40 foreign ministers, it added.
An Israeli delegate will arrive in Cairo Tuesday to hold talks with Egyptian Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman on the Palestinian-Israeli prisoners swap.
