Shimla : Twenty-one Tibetans, who were arrested from Reckong Peo town in Himachal Pradesh last week, were released on bail by a court Thursday.
Deputy superintendent of police, Kinnaur, Shamsher Singh told IANS on phone that the Tibetans were arrested on suspicion of crossing the international border to disrupt the Olympics torch run in Tibet.
He said most of the Tibetans, arrested June 20, belonged to the National Democratic Party of Tibet and residents of McLeodganj and Paonta Sahib towns.
He said during interrogation it was revealed that they had gathered in Reckong Peo, 150 km from here, just to gain publicity.
Meanwhile, the Tibetan government-in-exile has written to Nepal seeking release of their community leaders and other Tibetans, arrested in the Himalayan country on the charge of organising protests against China.
Writing on behalf of the Tibetan government-in-exile, deputy speaker Dolma Gyari has said demonstrations and protests have been continuing in three provinces of Tibet since March 10.
“We are saddened to hear that many Tibetans, including three community leaders, have been arrested since June 19,” the letter says.
