Turkey to open consulate in Hyderabad

By IANS,

Hyderabad : India has granted permission to the Turkish government to establish their consulate here, an official said Thursday.

The Andhra Pradesh government would provide all the amenities required for the consulate, officials told IANS.

According to officials of the non-resident Indian (NRI) cell, Turkey was keen to establish the consulate here and had sought permission for the same from the Indian government.

Turkey hopes that setting up of the consulate would help boost the trade relations with Andhra Pradesh in general and Hyderabad in particular.

Turkey would be the third country after Iran and the United States to set up its consulate in this southern city. While Iran already has a consulate, the American consulate is scheduled to become operational by the year-end.

Saudi Arabia has also evinced interest in setting up its consulate in Hyderabad, which emerged as a major information technology and bio-technology hub in recent times.

Iran, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have historic relations with the four-centuries-old city, which was capital of the erstwhile Hyderabad State.

The thriving economy of the state is also attracting many other countries. The officials said the government of India has permitted Canada to set up its trade office in Hyderabad. The state government assured to provide all the support in this regard.

Britain already has a trade office in Hyderabad.
