Four coalition troops killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : Four US-led coalition troops were killed and five were wounded in two attacks in Afghanistan while a key local Taliban commander was also killed in fighting, officials said Friday.

Three coalition soldiers and a local interpreter were killed Friday in an attack on a coalition convoy in the east-central province of Maidan Wardak, said a military statement issued from the US military base at Bagram outside Kabul.

Identification of the victims was pending.

One vehicle was destroyed in the attack in the Sayedabad district, and coalition and Afghan forces secured the scene and searched for the attackers, the statement said.

Meanwhile, a fourth coalition soldier was killed Thursday during a reconnaissance patrol in the Gulistan district of the south-western province of Farah, a second military release said.

Five coalition soldiers and two Afghan troops were wounded, it added.

In another development, Afghan officials said a key local Taliban commander in the southern province of Zabul was killed during a clash.

Mullah Hamdullah Jahadyar was an important Taliban commander in Zabul and was in charge of attacks on Afghan and foreign forces, said Faridullah Khogyani, a local police official.

Taliban insurgents had yet to make a comment regarding the killing of the mullah.
