Nandigram police station officer-in-charge Debashis Chakraborty said: “Four political activists – two from Trinamool and two from CPI-M – suffered injuries late Friday evening in a conflict over Gram Panchayat charge handover at Kalicharanpur of Nandigram. No arrests have been made so far.”

A second clash took place the same day injuring two Trinamool activists. CPI-M supporters under the leadership of Ashok Guria alleged that Trinamool supporters led by Shishir Adhikary ransacked and set fire to their party office at Nandigram Block II’s Takapura area Friday evening.

Responding to the allegation, Adhikary said: “The CPI-M are not able to accept their defeat at Panchayat polls at Nandigram. Now that it’s time to hand over the administrative charge to us, they are creating a scene. They set fire to their office themselves and accused us for the act.”
