Bangladesh hikes fuel price by up to 37 percent

Dhaka : Bangladesh Monday raised the price of fuel by up to 37 percent.

This is the second time that the caretaker government of chief advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed has increased prices of petroleum products in the past 15 months.

The previous hike was between 13 percent and 21 percent in April last year.

The new petroleum price regime went into immediate effect.

The new price of diesel and kerosene is 55 Bangladeshi taka a litre, which is about 37.5 percent or 15 taka more than the earlier price.

A US dollar is about 60 taka.

Octane will now cost 90 taka a litre, which is 34 percent or 23 taka more than its previous price of 67 taka a litre.

Petrol is now 87 taka a litre, up 34 percent or 22 taka.

A cylinder of cooking gas is now 1,000 taka, up from 600 taka.
