Kabul : Angry protestors, demanding expulsion of Danish and Dutch troops from Afghanistan and closure of embassies of the two countries, set ablaze Danish and Dutch flags to condemn the printing of profane caricatures of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and a film against Quran.
The angry protest by hundreds of people was staged in the country’s northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif on Sunday. The people gathered in front of a shrine, known to be that of the fourth Caliph of Islam Hazrat Ali and chanted slogans against Dutch and Danish governments.
Criticising the Danish government for the publication of sacrilegious cartoons in the print media of that country, they asked the Afghan government to cut diplomatic relations with Denmark.
This is the second time that such blasphemous cartoons are being published in that country by the print media.
The protestors also slammed the Dutch government where a derogatory film is being prepared to criticise the Holy Quran and Islam.
The protestors asked the Karzai government to close embassies of the two countries in Kabul. “We don’t need their military or other assistance,” said Maulvi Ibrahim, one of the organisers of the protest demonstration.
A day earlier, a member of the Afghanistan Meshrano Jirga or Senate and former president Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani had asked the two houses of the Afghan parliament to prepare a document to condemn Israel for what he called indiscriminate killing of Palestinians by its troops as well as the re-publication of the derogatory caricatures of Prophet Mohammad in Danish newspapers.
