Antony taken on wrong route in his hometown in Kerala

Alapuzha (Kerala) : Defence Minister A.K. Antony was taken on a wrong route near Amabalapuzha, Kerala, Sunday. The state government has ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident.

Speaking to IANS, senior Inspector General of Police Vinson M.Paul, who has been asked to carry out the investigation, said the inquiry has begun and the report would be ready in the coming few days.

“It cannot be considered a security lapse in the strict sense, but it’s a fact that he (Antony) was driven wrong way for five minutes. The pilot car took a wrong route and this happened because the officials in the car may not be familiar with the place,” said Paul.

Antony was on his way to attend a programme when the slip occurred in Alapuzha, which is his hometown too.

“Lack of coordination between the concerned officials might be the reason why this happened. When the mistake was found it was rectified,” Paul said.

Driving VIPs up the wrong way is not new in Kerala. It happened with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also in October 2006 during his visit to the state capital.
