Chandigarh : Thousands of devotees, particularly Sikhs, paid obeisance to a religious procession ceremoniously carrying the Sikh holy book – Guru Granth Sahib – and weapons of 10th Sikh guru Gobind Singh in the city Sunday.
The Jagriti Yatra started from gurudwara Hazoor Sahib in Nanded town in Maharashtra November last year and reached here after travelling through various states.
The yatra (pilgrimage) has been organised to mark the tercentenary of the installation of the Sikh holy book at Hazoor Sahib.
The yatra went to nearly half a dozen Sikh shrines in the city and thousands of devotees lined up to pay obeisance to the Sikh holy book.
A private helicopter from Pawanhans Aviation Company showered flower petals on the yatra as it was moving through the city.
With thousands turning up to witness the procession, traffic jams occurred at some places.
