Venus Remedies gets nod for latest antibiotic drug

Mumbai : The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has given a green signal to Punjab-based Venus Remedies Ltd for the launch of its latest antibiotic drug, which it says has a $2.5-billion global market.

Announcing this here, the company in its statement said that this drug is used in the life threatening infections caused in cystic fibrosis, a disease that affects the lungs and the digestive system.

The company, informing the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Monday of the DGCI’s approval, stated that the drug belongs to the cephalosporins group of generic drugs.

The company is also tying up with Indian pharmaceutical companies for strategic marketing of drugs and has filed patent applications in 50 countries.
