Lucknow : More than four million students across Uttar Pradesh sat for the high school and intermediate examinations conducted by the state government Tuesday.
The examinations are conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad,regarded as the largest single examination board in the country. The parishad has taken extensive measures to curb cheating, for which the state has been quite notorious in the past.
As many as 2.8 million students took the high school examination, while 1.7 million were enrolled for the intermediate examination this year, an official spokesman told IANS.
The spokesman said: “It was for the first time that there was a drop of eight percent in the number of candidates for high school. However, the number of intermediate examinees registered a three percent increase over last year.”
Spread over March and April, the examinations are being conducted at 7,660 centres with unprecedented measures put in place to curb cheating.
“Special anti-copying squads have been created at the district level to keep strict vigil at each centre,” Parishad secretary Prabha Tripathi told reporters in Allahabad.
Meanwhile, the manager and principal of a school were arrested Tuesday in Allahabad, the Parishad headquarters.
