New Delhi : The umbrellas appeared on the Delhi streets in the afternoon, making one thing clear: The residents of the capital city are getting ready for the long, tough summer. By calendar, though, it is still spring in Delhi.

Though the maximum and minimum temperatures came down a bit from Monday’s figures, it did not make much difference to the Delhiites’ life because like on the previous day the sun was sharp.

The maximum temperature Tuesday afternoon touched 32.1 degrees Celsius, almost one degree down from Monday’s but five up from what is the normal level this time of the year in Delhi.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 15.2, two degrees higher than normal.

The maximum temperatures across the northern plains remained at least 4-6 degrees Celsius above normal, and according to the weatherman this scenario would continue for the next three-four days.

The Met Office said sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and northeastern states would get isolated to scattered thundershowers during the next three-four days ending next week-end.

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh region from March 6 onwards, said the weather office.

The south Indian states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala and also Andaman and Nicobar Islands would get isolated rain under the influence of easterly waves, the weather office said.

The following were the maximum and minimum temperatures and rainfall in major cities for the 24 hours till Tuesday morning, with figures in brackets denoting deviations from the average.
