Bhopal : The opposition Congress staged a walk out from the Madhya Pradesh assembly here Wednesday over poor power supply situation in the state.

Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi said: “Despite tall claims of the government and huge spending, power supply in the state is precarious. People living in rural and urban areas are facing acute shortage of electricity.”

“While the farmers were suffering in rural areas, in urban areas the students were made to bear the brunt of poor supply of power. Industrialists too were suffering on account of the same,” she said.

The government claims to be spending huge amount on streamlining the power supply in the state, but the entire money was being pocketed by the MP Power Supply Company’s officials, she alleged.

She also accused Power and Energy Minister Gauri Shankar Shejwar of giving political patronage to electricity officials, and sought clarification from the minister.

Dissatisfied over Shejwar’s reply that the accusation had no basis, the Congress lawmakers walked out of the house.
