Jerusalem : Israeli Security Cabinet decided Wednesday that Israel will continue to strike at the Hamas regimein the Gaza Strip while advancing the negotiations process with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).
The ministers also decided that it would coordinate with various elements, including Egypt, in order to weaken the Hamas government without creating a humanitarian crisis, said a statement released by the Government Press Office.
The security cabinet decisions, however, did not mention increased military operations or a major invasion of the Gaza Strip.
Israel ended five-day military operations in the Gaza Strip on Monday, but Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has threatened the operations in the Gaza Strip would continue as long as Qassamrocket fire persists.
Early Wednesday morning, three Qassam rockets fired from north Gaza landed in open fields south of Ashkelon and within the SdotNegev Regional Council.
Overnight the Israeli Air Force attacked rocket launchers in Gaza and scored a hit, a spokesperson of Israel Defense Forcestold Xinhua.
Israel will continue negotiations with the moderates in the PNA, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Tuesday, hours after U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice kicked off a new visit to the territory in a bid to help revive the Palestinian-Israeli talks.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas suspended statehood talks with Israel on Sunday in protest against the Jewish state’s large-scale offensive in the Palestinian territory.
