New Delhi : Millions in the northern plain battled maximum temperatures several notches above normal Wednesday even as the eastern parts of the country experienced some rains.
The maximum temperature in the national capital was around 34 degrees Celsius, which was nearly five degrees above normal for this time of the year. While the maximum temperature has been pegged in the 30s for the past week, the minimum has been steadily rising, pointing towards an early arrival of the summer.
The minimum temperature in Delhi was nearly 15 degrees Celsius Wednesday, two degrees above the normal.
The maximum temperature in Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and north Madhya Pradesh remained 4-7 degrees above normal. The weather office forecast the current trend will continue for the rest of the week.
While the northern parts battled heat, eastern parts witnessed rain that brought some relief for the people. Guwahati saw 13.7 mm of rain, as did many other parts of the state and neighbouring areas.
The south Indian states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands also would get isolated rain under the influence of easterly waves, the weather office said. Most other parts of the country witnessed dry weather.
