UGC grant for AMU’s Zakir Hussain Engineering College

Aligarh: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned an additional grant of Rs. seven crore to the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology at Aligarh Muslim University.

The grant is meant for the upgradation of the college to the level of an IIT. Professor M.T. Ahmad, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, said the Ministry of Human Resource Development had identified the college as one of the seven
institutions to be upgraded to the level of IIT. The college has already submitted its comprehensive proposal to the UGC and the ministry for XI Plan period of the
tune of Rs. 633 crore. Subsequently, essential financial requirements of Rs. 147 crore were also communicated for the first year of XI Plan proposed for 2007-2008.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis said that the University has been requesting the UGC and the Ministry for subsequent release of funds.
