Cabinet approves ICWA act amendment

New Delhi : The cabinet Friday approved an amendment to the bill governing the ministry of external affair’s think tank Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) that has provisions on the qualification and appointment of a director general.

The ICWA was set up in 1943 by a group of intellectuals, but was formally consecrated at its present building in the capital in 1955 by then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The amendment to the ICWA Act 2001 approved by cabinet stipulates that a director general should have held at least an additional secretary level post in the central government.

It further says that the director general will hold office for a period of not more than three years and shall be eligible for appointment if he is not more than 65 years.
