Gaza : A senior official of Islamic Hamas movement said Saturday that the movement is seeking more Arab efforts to end the impasse with rival President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah movement.
Ahmed Yousef, an aide to deposed prime minister of Hamas Ismail Haneya said in a statement that the situation in the Palestinian territories “is unbearable, and needs a positive Arab movement to end the internal Palestinian crisis.”
Yemen had recently presented an initiative aiming at ending the yearlong internal fighting and political disputes, and bringing the leaders of the two movements back to dialogue.
Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in mid June last yearafter its militias ousted President Abbas security forces. “The Yemeni initiative is similar at some extent to an initiative presented by President Abbas,” Yousef said. “There are so many issues need to be discussed and settled, mainly the partnership and the national unity government.”
Yousef reiterated that the status of alienation between Hamas and Fatah “won’t serve the national interests,” adding “what we need is to reunite the parts of the Palestinian territories and reduce this status of congestion.”
